Statement of Ethics and Poor Publication Practices and policies
Declaration of Ethics and Policies
Policies
The Revista Científica en Ciencias de la Salud accepts and aligns with the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://publicationethics.org/), which ensures the quality of scientific articles, transparency, safeguarding of information, and the ethical principles governing research in the health area.
The journal also considers the guidelines of the international committee of medical journal editors, published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Access the Spanish version document at the following link: https://www.icmje.org/recommendations/translations/spanish2016.pdf
Additionally, the Singapore Statement must be considered: https://www.conicyt.cl/fondap/files/2014/12/DECLARACI)\%C3\%93N-SINGAPUR.pdf
Revista Científica en Ciencias de la Salud subscribes to the editorial policy reflected in the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). The list of authors must include only those individuals who meet each of the following requirements:
- Having participated in the conception and execution of the work that resulted in the article in question.
- Having participated in the drafting of the text and its possible revisions.
- Having approved the version of the text that will finally be published.
Rights and License
The Revista científica en Ciencias de la Salud does not charge any fees related to submission, application, review, publication, layout, indexing, or license assignment.
Upon publication of the article in the Revista científica en Ciencias de la Salud, the articles acquire a Creative Commons Attribution License CC-BY 4.0, granting freedom to the entire community to:
- Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
- Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material.
The authors of the articles are responsible for obtaining the corresponding permission to include any material published elsewhere in their article. The journal declines any responsibility arising therefrom.
The responsibility for the content of the published articles is the exclusive competence of their respective authors, and the Editor and/or the Scientific Committee are exempt from all types of liability.
Authors retain the copyrights and cede the right of publication to the journal; to this effect, the author will receive a letter of conformity approving the aforementioned.
The Journal permits and encourages authors to disseminate the publication electronically, through its link and and/or the postprint and preprint version on servers with that methodology.
Digital Preservation Policy
The Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) for computing and communications services is the primary responsibility of the IT Department of Universidad del Pacífico (UP); however, the Infrastructure & Services area is responsible for its development, maintenance, and execution. The Infrastructure & Services area is responsible for the following activities:
- Ensure the continuity of UP's IT services in the event of a major contingency or catastrophic 1
- Provide an organized approach to managing response and recovery activities after an unplanned incident or prolonged service interruption, in order to avoid confusion and reduce the probability of error.2
- Offer timely and appropriate responses to any unplanned inc3ident, thereby reducing the effect of a service interruption.
Peer Review
The review is conducted double-blind, safeguarding author data to ensure blind review. Blind reviewers will issue a report based on the following possible outcomes:
- Accepted: Article suitable for publication, requiring no modifications, or with minimal modifications.
- Accepted conditioned on suggested modifications: Corrections must be made and the work resubmitted for a new review.
- Rejected: The article does not conform to the journal's theme, policy, and/or norms, or requires substantial adjustments in writing. The article may not be resubmitted for a period of 6 months.
Works requiring modifications must be corrected and returned by the authors within the deadline indicated by the editorial team, indicating the incorporated changes.
In case of conflicting positions among the article's reviewers, the opinion of a third arbitrator will be sought.
Authorship
The first author is considered to be the one who made the most significant contribution to the manuscript.
An author will be considered anyone who has actively participated in the research in addition to the drafting of the submitted manuscript.
Those who have made a relevant contribution to the development of the research, such as data facilitation, correction of the article's academic style, among others, may be listed in the acknowledgments of the article.
Each author must indicate which of the following points they have participated in (according to the type of article), indicating their contribution in the manuscript:
- Conception/design of work.
- Collection/obtaining of data/information.
- Analysis and interpretation of data.
- Drafting of the manuscript draft.
- Critical review of the manuscript.
- Approval of the final version of the manuscript.
- Other contributions (to be defined).
Corrections and Retractions
If significant errors are found in an already published article, a correction is issued. These errors can be reported by the authors or by readers. The editorial team will be responsible for publishing the correction as soon as possible. If an older version of the article needs to be viewed, readers can request it directly from the journal.
In certain situations, the retraction of an article followed by a new publication may be necessary, especially when there are significant errors that affect its interpretation or require profound corrections. In these cases, the original article remains accessible, but is clearly identified with a “retracted” label. The new version is republished along with an appendix that highlights the changes made, to facilitate its review by readers. These situations may be due to involuntary errors, omissions, or inappropriate research conduct.
Retractions are requested by one or several authors, or initiated by the editorial team. Each case is evaluated individually, considering information from independent investigations carried out by the institutions to which the authors belong. The editors are responsible for ensuring that the process is carried out with transparency and effectiveness. All retracted articles remain available online and are clearly identified as such. These actions are performed in accordance with the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) https://publicationethics.org/guidance/guideline/retraction-guidelines
Privacy Statement
The names and email addresses entered in this journal will be used exclusively for the purposes declared by this journal and will not be available or provided to third parties for any other purpose.
Backup and Recovery Procedures
- Data Backup: OJS information is backed up daily, as an incremental and differential type, which allows access to all modified or deleted information. The minimum historical storage time is 1 (one) year.
- Data Recovery: In case of equipment failure due to damage, breakdown, or other incident, there is a backup server with the same configuration as the failed service, which allows the faulty equipment to be substituted. A system is contemplated to synchronize the data from the backup server to the standby server.
Copyright
The acceptance of the manuscript for publication implies the automatic assignment of rights for the publication of the article to the Revista científica en Ciencias de la Salud
Preprints
The Revista científica en Ciencias de la Salud accepts manuscripts that have been previously published on recognized preprint servers. This does not affect its evaluation by the journal. If a preprint is publicly shared, it must be clarified that it has not been peer-reviewed and that its results are preliminary. It is recommended to avoid its promotion in the media before peer review.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The use of AI is permitted only to improve the grammar and style of the manuscript, under human supervision. It must not be used to generate scientific or clinical content. Authors are responsible for the final content.
It is mandatory to include a declaration about the use of AI in the cover letter and in the manuscript, before the References section. Basic spelling correction or reference management tools do not need to be declared.
Data Availability Declaration
Authors must include a section titled “Data Availability” at the end of the manuscript before the References section. If the data are available in repositories, mention the direct links or DOI. If, due to its nature, it contains sensitive information about its participants and is not publicly available, this must be clearly explained.
Ethical Aspects
Studies involving Humans
All studies involving humans must have written authorization from an ethics committee of the participating institution, which must be attached to the manuscript submitted through OJS. Authors must mention in the Methods section that the procedures used on patients were performed after obtaining authorization from their institution's ethics committee.
Confidentiality and Protection
The author has the obligation to ensure they are in possession of the written informed consent for the participation of each subject in the study.
The author is responsible for guaranteeing the right to privacy of patients by protecting their identity both in the article's writing and in the images; unless such information is essential for the scientific objectives, in which case it may be included in the article provided the patient or their parent or guardian grants written informed consent for publication—the same treatment applies to mentioning an institution.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors must indicate any financial relationship that could give rise to a conflict of interest in relation to the published article. Even if authors believe there are none, they must state so.
