The integration of radiology into various disciplines has strengthened its diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic reach. The versatility of this specialty has enabled numerous advances over time. For example, in cardiology, coronary computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) allow for accurate assessment of coronary artery disease. In oncology, positron emission tomography (PET-CT) is crucial for the staging and monitoring of neoplasms. In neurology, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and CT detect strokes and tumors. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the current scientific impact of radiology in order to generate new research questions, as well as to identify knowledge gaps and deepen the creation of new knowledge in areas with lower scientific output(1–3).
