Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The journal adheres to the Heredia Declaration, which sets out principles on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific publishing, and to the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.

Authors

The use of AI is permitted only to improve the grammar and style of the manuscript, under human supervision. It must not be used to generate scientific or clinical content. Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the content. Authors are responsible for the final content and answer for its accuracy and originality.

A statement on the use of AI is mandatory in the cover letter and in the manuscript, before the References, indicating the tool, version and use. Basic spell-checking or reference-management tools need not be declared. Failure to comply with this policy will be regarded as an ethical breach and handled in accordance with the research integrity policy and the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Reviewers and editorial team

In the peer review process, if a reviewer uses AI to support their evaluation, they must inform the editorial team, stating at least the name of the model, the version and the date of use. Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or unpublished data to AI systems that do not guarantee confidentiality. Responsibility for the judgment issued in recommending, or not, the publication of a manuscript, as well as for the corrections and improvements proposed, remains solely with the reviewer; interaction with AI does not replace their expert judgment or their accountability.

Editorial decisions are not delegated to AI tools.
