Translational Medicine "The Laboratory and Patient Care”

Abstract

The process of developing new diagnostic methods, treatments, and any advancement in medicine is one that can take many years and requires substantial resources. Translational medicine emerges from the need to accelerate these processes by applying knowledge from basic sciences and clinical practice together in the search for medical solutions with a holistic approach. Accelerating these processes and avoiding the use of resources on approaches without clinical applicability allows for practical, rapid solutions with an impact on public health. In a broader and more advanced sense, we can say that translational medicine is about going from bench to bedside and back again. It catalyzes the union of concepts generated in basic science laboratories with the technological advances and innovations produced across all areas of multidisciplinary scientific research, in order to generate clinical solutions based on problems identified in clinical practice⁽¹⁾.
