Conocimiento sobre trastornos temporomandibulares en estudiantes de estomatología de una universidad peruana

Resumen

Introducción. Los trastornos temporomandibulares (TTM) comprometen la función de la articulación temporomandibular (ATM) y de los músculos masticatorios, lo que conlleva a síntomas dolorosos que impacta negativamente en la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Investigaciones previas han demostrado que el conocimiento sobre estos trastornos es limitado entre estudiantes y profesionales de odontología. Objetivo. Evaluar el conocimiento sobre trastornos temporomandibulares en estudiantes de estomatología de una universidad peruana en el 2023. Materiales y Métodos. Se realizó un estudio transversal, con una muestra de 210 estudiantes de estomatología que cursaban entre el quinto y noveno ciclo académico. Se aplicó un cuestionario de 15 preguntas para medir el conocimiento sobre la etiología, diagnóstico y tratamiento de los TTM. Resultados. Los estudiantes tenían una edad promedio de 23,20±3,46 años. Asimismo, 61,0% de los estudiantes eran del sexo femenino, mientras que el 27,6% pertenecía al VIII ciclo. El conocimiento general de TTM fue regular en el 50,5%, el 83,3% presentó un conocimiento malo en la dimensión etiología. No se encontró una asociación entre el conocimiento de TTM y variables como edad, sexo y ciclo académico de los participantes. Conclusión. El conocimiento sobre TTM entre los estudiantes de estomatología fue regular, sin asociación con la edad, sexo y ciclo académico.
